meet Cassi Adams
Hey! I’m Cassi. I created Social Nova to help brands reach new levels of success through creative, one-of-a kind digital marketing strategies.
Q: Name, age, a little about you.
A: My name is Cassi Adams and I am 24 years old. I quit my full time job in the middle of a *global pandemic* to start my own business (Social Nova) and I’m loving every second of it. I would say am a very goal oriented, driven individual who loves to work but also knows when it is time to shut off to go out and enjoy life with friends and family. (Safe to say I am a strong advocate for a good work/life balance)
Q: Where did you go to school?
A: I graduated from Michigan State University in 2019 with a degree in Advertising and a focus on Digital Marketing.
Q: When you aren’t working, what are you doing?
A: When I am not working with my clients here at Social Nova, most days you can find me creating new products for my Etsy Shop or spending quality time with my lovely boyfriend Dallas, best friends and/or family (Preferably, with a mimosa 😉)
Q: When did you know you wanted to start your own business?
A: Probably, around age 6. Not even kidding! My parents always teased that I would be a CEO one day and hey, looks like it stuck.
Q: Tell us about your first job fresh out of college.
A: When I graduated, I landed the position as a Marketing Director for a great company. This job was an amazing opportunity and honestly, some people would consider it a dream job fresh out of college. I had great pay, a big office all to myself…. but it wasn’t “it” for me. I learned a lot in my time there but it was time to take action on my own goals, join the entrepreneur world and do something bigger. So, I put together a presentation for my boss about my new business plan, ended on great terms with the company and just like that I was on my way to building Social Nova. No looking back 😉
Q: How did you know that Social Media Marketing was it for you?
A: I saw that businesses everywhere were experiencing a massive need for social media marketing managers. Having established good foundation and general understanding of the industry with my blog, I took further action. I started investing in social media courses, seeking out certifications, doing free client work, educating myself with entrepreneurial books and podcasts… really I was doing everything in my power to become an “expert”.
Q: What would you say is the most important thing when becoming a business owner at a young age?
A: Just keep going. Create a mindset where you treat every day, hour and task like you have no backup plan. Convince yourself that“this is it” so you better give it your all. Some days it is going to feel like you made the biggest mistake of your life and others you will feel on top of the world. It is a long process, you just have to keep going no matter what, like your life depends on it.
Q: What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced with starting your own businesses?
A: Hmm…I don’t know if this is the biggest challenge, but one of the most frequent challenges I catch myself running into is worrying about what other people think. It sounds silly and insecure, but when you are doing something most people don’t understand or have done themselves, the lack of support can get to you.
I’m convinced you can be the most confident person in the world and still struggle with this every now and again because the fear of being judged or told that you are making a big mistake can be a lot to take on.
Luckily, I accepted that the critics who want to see me fail don’t deserve a space in my head. There are so many people who love and support me, that there isn’t any room left for negativity. I am not saying it is all rainbows and butterflies now, the anxiety still comes and goes. But I learned you just have to put your blinders up, say a prayer, and keep going because you are the only one in charge of your success.
Whatever anyone tells you, it doesn’t happen overnight and I am still in the beginning phases. I have a long way to go but I am on the right track.
